Holy
Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center
Inpatient Pediatric Service
Holy
Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center has extensive pediatric facilities
and services to meet the needs of patients referred by private physicians
in the area.
A critical component of this program is the presence of a group of pediatric
generalists dedicated solely to inpatient care.
The inpatient pediatric group provides comprehensive services to acutely
ill pediatric patients referred by area physicians. These services,
available to inpatient and emergency room patients on a 24-hour a day
basis, are coordinated and provided by pediatricians with broad inpatient
experience. The work of the group is augmented by extensive subspecialty
support, including an active pediatric surgical staff, and by excellent
ancillary services. The service works closely with the private physicians
to ensure continuity of care for their patients.
Inpatient
Pediatricians Available 24-Hours A Day
The inpatient pediatricians are responsible for the management of acute
illness in pediatric patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They
represent an adjunct to the services of the primary care physician,
allowing hospitalization or emergency room evaluation of pediatric patients
without necessitating the interruption of office practice.
The group has academic affiliation with Temple Children's. Each physician
has extensive patient care and teaching responsibilities as a clinical
assistant professor of pediatrics at a tertiary care facility in the
city. This continued exposure to tertiary medicine and access to subspecialty
services ensures quality of care at Holy Redeemer Hospital and Medical
Center.
Hospitalized Patients
Referring physicians will receive a daily verbal report on the progress
of the child as well as a detailed discharge summary, allowing them
to remain up-to-date on their patient's management. If the referring
physician wishes to admit the patient to his or her own service, the
inpatient group will act as a consulting service, if requested. In either
case, the pediatric service works closely with the private physician
to maintain as much continuity of care as possible. Subsequent to the
in-hospital care, the child is ultimately discharged back to the care
of the private physician.
Emergency
Room Visits
Private physicians may send children to the emergency room for evaluation
by the team of emergency medical physician or the inpatient group. In
these instances, the inpatient pediatrician will assess the child and
recommend admission or outpatient management to the referring physician.
Facilities
and Services
The pediatric unit is a newly designed facility with the equipment and
support necessary to care for the urgent or emergent needs of acutely
ill children. Excellent support and consultative services are available,
including pediatric surgery. The capacity for one-on-one nursing in
a pediatric care area provides for excellent management of more seriously
ill children. The practice also maintains close ties to tertiary care
facilities, allowing rapid referral and transport of those children
requiring more extensive support.
