What
to Expect When Your Child Needs to Go to the Hospital.
We understand that leaving your child in the hospital is
not an easy thing to do. So we welcome you to stay overnight with your
little one and have added a few amenities to our pediatric unit to make
your stay more comfortable. A sleep bench or folding cot in your child's
room is available for one parent for an overnight stay. You may also
use the bathroom and shower in your child's room. When you need to sneak
away for a minute but don't want to go too far, please feel free to
use our parent lounge. Located on the pediatric unit, it was designed
for the comfort of parents like you. We encourage you to take a few
minutes for yourself several times a day it is important to take
a break.
General
Information
When
You Get Hungry
It is easy for parents to forget to rest and eat regularly during their
child's stay. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too. Parents and
visitors may eat in the hospital cafeteria (please ask about hours of
operation) or in the vending area which is open 24 hours a day for your
convenience.
Televisions
Televisions are available in each room for a daily charge. To make your
child's stay a little bit more fun (and maybe yours too), we have a
VCR and children's videos. Please ask your child's nurse for assistance.
Visiting Hours
Parents/guardians are welcome 24-hours a day. Non-parent visitors may
visit between the hours of 12 noon and 8 p.m. daily. Siblings over the
age of two may visit if they are in good health. We ask that siblings
be supervised by a parent at all times.
Smoking
Holy Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center is a smoke-free hospital.
Smoking is not permitted in the building and is only permitted outside
of the building in designated areas where ashtrays are provided.
The Pediatric Bill of Rights
We have posted a Bill of Rights for children, teens and parents on our
corridor wall. We will make every effort to support and enforce the
rights of you and your child.
Questions, Comments and Concerns
We do everything we can to make your stay at Holy Redeemer pleasant.
So, if you have a question, comment or concern, please bring it to the
attention of the nurse manager or the assistant manager. We take your
concerns seriously and will work with you to address them as quickly
as possible.
Security/Safety
Because your child's safety is important to us, we ask
that you recognize the following:
- Children
under the age of 18 years will not be discharged in the care of anyone
other than the parent/guardian unless prior arrangements have been
made. If you choose to have a friend or family member take your child
home, you must provide the nurse with the full name of the individual
in writing prior to discharge. The designated individual must present
the nurse with appropriate identification (driver's license) before
the child can be released to his/her care.
- Pediatric
patients are not permitted to leave the pediatric area unless they
require testing/procedures in another department of the hospital.
If a patient must leave the area, he/she will be accompanied by hospital
personnel.
- Latex
balloons, friction toys and toys with removable parts are not permitted.
Please ask your child's nurse if you have a question about toy safety.
- Since
most childhood illnesses are contagious, we ask that you do not take
your child into other patient rooms. Please check with your child's
nurse before taking you child to the play area.
- For
your own health as well as your child's, please wash your hands before
and after caring for your child.
- If your
child is allowed to have a snack, a nurse will provide it. We regret
that parents are not permitted in the pantry. Please ask a nurse for
assistance.
Discharge
Information
When
it is Time to Go Home
Your child's physician may discharge your child at any time during the
day or evening. Discharge instructions and prescriptions from your physician
will be given to you by the nurse.
